예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2022년 2월 24일

이 예루살렘 기도 목록은 두 가지 주요 목적이 있습니다:

1. 매주 저희가 저희 회중에서 읽는 토라와 선지서와 신약성경 말씀을 나누는 것입니다.

2. 전 세계 형제자매님들께 저희 회중 안에서 기도가 필요한 것들을 알려드리고, 전 세계 형제자매님들의 기도 부탁과 기도해야 할 것들을 전해드리는 것입니다.

이번 안식일 토라 포션은 바야켈, 출애굽기 35:1~40:38가 될 것입니다. 하프타라(선지서에서 읽는 부분)는 열왕기상 7:40~8:21이고, 신약성경에서는 요한복음 14:12-31을 읽을 것입니다.

저는 사람들이 토라, 선지서, 신약성경에서 하나님의 말씀을 더 많이 읽도록 고무하기 위해 매주 이 예루살렘 기도 목록을 게재하고 있습니다. 이렇게 읽는 것에서 보아야 하는 것은 토라와 선지서와 신약성경 사이의 관계입니다. 초대 교부시대 이래로 기독교 역사는 모두 토라와 히브리 성경과 신약성경을 갈라놓고 나누고 소외시키는 것과 관련이 있습니다.

1960년대 초 미국에서는 대부분의 목사님들이 양복 주머니에 가죽 양장 신약성경을 가지고 다녔습니다. 제가 조지아 남부에서 고등학교를 다닌 2년 동안 대셔 마을 교회에서 전해진 설교 99.9%는 신약성경에서 전한 것이었습니다.

이것은 제가 오래된 남부 주들, 조지아, 앨라배마, 테네시, 켄터키, 루이지애나, 미시시피, 텍사스에 다닐 때도 마찬가지였습니다. 그래서 지금 저는 몇 가지 목적을 가지고 이 예루살렘 기도 목록을 쓰고 있는데요, 그 중 하나가 토라(모세오경)와 선지서 말씀을 읽고 음미하도록 고무하고, 그것들의 신약성경과의 관계를 설명하는 것입니다.

그리하여 이번 안식일에 우리는 바야켈(“모세가 온 회중을 모으고”)을 읽습니다. 70인역(히브리어 성경을 헬라어로 번역한 최초 번역본)에서 여기 “회중”에 대해 사용된 단어는 “회당”인데요, “회중”이라는 뜻입니다.

모세는 그가 주님으로부터 받은 지시를 전달하기 위해 회중을 모았습니다. 모세가 주님으로부터 받은 첫 번째 명령은 이것입니다:

“엿새 동안은 일하고 일곱째 날은 너희를 위한 거룩한 날이니 여호와께 엄숙한 안식일이라 누구든지 이 날에 일하는 자는 죽일지니 안식일에는 너희의 모든 처소에서 불도 피우지 말지니라.” – 출애굽기 35:2,3

저는 안식일(일곱째 날)에 쉬라는 명령이 왜 그리도 중요하여 모세오경에 그렇게 많이 명령되었는지, 심지어 신약성경에서도 명령되었는지 궁금합니다. 히브리 성경(구약성경)에 안식일은 191번 언급됩니다.

안식일을 지키라는 명령은 창세기에서 시작하여 말라기로 끝나는 히브리 성경(구약성경)에 34번 있습니다. 신약성경에서는 안식일이 12번 언급됩니다.

신약성경을 읽을 때 예슈아께서 안식일에 회당이나 성전에 계시는 것을 볼 수 있는 것이 흥미롭습니다. 한 번은 제가 “예슈아께서는 왜 안식일에 회당에 가셨는가?” 질문했습니다.

이 질문에 대한 성경의 유일한 대답은 간단합니다: 예슈아께서는 두 가지 이유, 즉 기도하시러, 토라를 읽으시러 안식일에 회당에 가셨습니다. 그런데 이 질문에 대답한 형제님은 예슈아께서 유대인을 개종시키러 회당에 가셨다고 말했습니다.

복음서의 예에서는 예슈아께서 두 가지 이유, 즉 토라를 읽으시러, 가르치시러 회당에 가셨습니다. 다음 말씀은 기독교 학자들과 설교자들이 종종 간과하는 흥미로운 말씀입니다:

누가복음의 이 본문 말씀을 주목해 보십시오: 이 말씀의 맥락은 예슈아께서 40일 금식과 유대광야에서의 시험 직후 갈릴리로 돌아오셨을 때입니다. 예슈아께서는 그분의 고향으로 돌아오셨고 성령님께서는 우리에게 “그에 대한 소문이 사방에 퍼졌다!”고 말해주고 있습니다.

제가 앞의 가르침을 가져온 이유는 제 생각에 구약성경의 헬라어 번역본(주전 2세기부터)에서 모인 무리(공동체)에 대한 단어가 “회당”이었다는 것을 아는 것이 중요하기 때문입니다. 제게는 전 세계 우리 형제자매님들이 예슈아와 바울과 예슈아의 다른 제자들이 그들 시대의 다른 모든 유대인들처럼 계속 안식일에 출석하여 동참하여 토라와 선지서에서 말씀을 읽었다는 것을 아는 것도 중요합니다.

하나님께서 모세에게 광야 이스라엘 공동체(회당)에 전하라고 명한 두 번째 명령은 이것입니다:

우리는 모두 이교도 세계에 헌금에 의존하지 않는, 신들에게 돈과 금과 귀한 물품과 보석을 드리라고 구하지 않는 종교는 세상에 없다는 것을 알아야 합니다. 광야의 성막에서도, 예루살렘에 있는 성전에서도 그랬고, 오늘날 모든 교회에서도 사람들에게 교회에 돈을 바치라는 요청과 가르침과 요구가 있습니다.

하나님께서 모세에게 주신 명령에서 흥미로운 점은 그것이 모세가 원하거나 구하거나 고안한 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 하나님께서 모세에게 이스라엘 백성에게 물품 목록에 있는 것, 즉 이스라엘 백성 손에 있는 은과 금과 천과 온갖 종류의 재료와 보석을 가져오도록 가르쳐주라고 명령하신 것입니다.

저는 여러분이 희생적으로 성의껏 헌금할 수 있는 특권을 갖고, 다른 사람들이 진실로 마음에 자원함을 실천하여 그 자원하는 마음을 주님과 그분의 왕국에 실질적으로 기여하는 것을 볼 수 있기를 바랍니다. 저는 “주는 것이 받는 것보다 복 되다”는 말로 이 토라의 가르침을 마무리할 것입니다. 주님께서 저에게 복 주셔서 베풀며 하나님으로부터 복 받을 수 있는 능력을 주시기를 기원합니다. 겸손과 소박함의 영으로 기쁨과 즐거움으로 주님께 보답할 수 있도록 주님께서 여러분에게 복 주시기를 기도합니다.

이 주제에 대해 마지막으로 드리고 싶은 말씀은, 두 데나리온을 드린 가난한 과부와 천 디나르를 드린 부자 바리새인을 보시고 주님께서 “누가 더 많이 헌금했느냐?” 물으신 것과 같은 현상입니다. 그 대답은 과거에도 그랬고 여전히 가난한 중에 두 데나리온을 드린 과부가 더 많이 드렸다는 것인데요, 그녀는 그녀가 드릴 수 있는 모든 것을 드렸기 때문입니다. 저는 저희 회중에서 이 두 가지 현상을 모두 보았지만 슬픈 것은 일부 부자들이 적게 주면서 공개적으로 주며 공개적 명예와 인정을 받기 원했던 것입니다.

어떤 사람들은 주님의 가르침을 진지하게 받아들이지 않아 결코 배우지 못한다는 사실이 너무 슬픕니다. 그들은 예슈아를 믿지만 예슈아를 솔직하게 믿지 않거나 그분의 명령을 진지하게 받아들이지 않습니다. 할 수 있으면서 하지 않는 분들이 있어서 슬프고 안타깝지만, 할 수 없을 처지이지만 한 분들 덕분에 행복하고 기쁨이 충만합니다!!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – February 24, 2022

The Jerusalem Prayer List has two main purposes:

1. To share from the Torah and prophets and New Testament reading that we read in our congregation every Shabbat.

2. To inform our brothers and sisters around the world of the prayer needs in our own congregation and also to share the prayer requests that brothers and sisters from around the world have and ask to be prayed for.

This next Shabbat the reading will be the Torah Portion Vayakhel, Exodus 35:1 – 40:38. The Haftarah (from the prophets) is 1 Kings 7:40 – 8:21. From the New Testament we will be reading John 14:12-31.

I am publishing every week this Jerusalem Prayer List in order to encourage people to read more of the Word of God, from the Torah, the prophets, and from the New Testament. The thing to see in this reading is the relationship between the Torah, the prophets, and the New Testament. Christian history since the early church fathers has done everything in its power to separate, divide, and alienate, between the Torah and Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.

In the early 1960’s in the United States most of the pastors carried in their suit pockets a leather bound copy of the New Testament. During the two years that I was in high school in South Georgia, the preaching in the local church in Dasher was 99.9% only from the New Testament.

This was true when I traveled though the Old South, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. So, now I am writing these Jerusalem Prayer Lists with several goals, one of which is to encourage the reading and appreciation of the Torah (the law of Moses) and the prophets, and to explain their relationship to the New Testament.

So this Shabbat we are reading Vayakhel (“Moses gathered all of the congregation”). In the Septuagint (the earliest Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible) the word used here for “congregation” is “synagogue”. The word “synagogue” means “congregation.”

Moses gathered the congregation to give them instructions that he received from the Lord. The first commandment that Moses received from the Lord is:

“Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh day shall be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of rest to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. You shall kindle no fire throughout your dwellings on the Sabbath day.” – Exodus 35:2,3 [NKJV]

I wonder why the command to rest on the Sabbath (seventh day) is so important that it is commanded so many times in the Law of Moses and also in the New Testament? In the Hebrew Bible (The Old Testament) the Sabbath is mentioned 191 times.

The command to keep the Sabbath Day is given in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) 34 times, starting from Genesis and ending in Malachi. In the New Testament, the Sabbath is mentioned 12 times.

It is interesting that when you read the New Testament you find Yeshua on the Sabbath days in the synagogues or in the Temple. One time I asked, “why did Yeshua go on the Sabbath days to the synagogue?”

The only biblical answer to this question is simple: Yeshua went to the synagogues on the Sabbath day for two reasons, to pray and to read the Torah. But the brother that answered the question said that Yeshua went to the synagogue to convert the Jews.

In the examples that we have in the Gospels, Yeshua went to the synagogues for two reasons, to read the Torah, and to teach. Here is an interesting text that is oftentimes ignored by Christian scholars and preachers:

“Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.” – Luke 4:14-16 [NKJV]

Note this text from Luke: The context of this text is set right after the 40 days of fasting and the temptation in the Judean desert, Yeshua returns to the Galilee. He returns back to His own country and the Holy Spirit tells us that, “the news of him went out throughout all of the surrounding region!”

What does this tell us about Yeshua? It tells us that Yeshua was already well known and respected in the Galilee as a teacher of what we call today “the Old Testament.”

When Yeshua returned to the Galilee after the temptations by Satan, the news spread all over the Galilee and Yeshua was invited to teach in all the Jewish synagogues in the Galilee, and when the people in the synagogues heard Yeshua teach from the Torah on the Sabbath day, all the people glorified Yeshua for His teaching from the Torah.

The apostle Paul went to the synagogues in the Hellenistic communities every Sabbath as it was his custom:

“Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, ‘This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.’ And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.” – Acts 17:1-4 [NKJV]

I am bringing the above teaching because it is important in my opinion to know that in the Greek translation of the Old Testament (from the second century B.C.E.) the word for the crowd (the community) is “synagogue”. It is also important for me that our brothers and sisters around the world realize that Yeshua and Paul and the other disciples of Yeshua continued to attend and participate and read from the Torah and from the prophets on the Sabbath day like all the other Jews in their world.

The second command that God instructs Moses to share with the community (synagogue) of the Israelites in the wilderness is:

“And Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, ‘This is the thing which the Lord commanded, saying: “Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord: gold, silver, and bronze; blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense…”’” – Exodus 35:4-8 [NKJV]

We should all know that there is no religion in the world that does not depend and ask for contributions and giving money, gold, and precious materials, and precious stones to the gods in the pagan world and also in the Tabernacle in the wilderness and in the Temple in Jerusalem, and also today in every single church there are requests and teaching and demands for the people to give money to the church.

The interesting thing in the command of God to Moses is that it was not something that Moses wanted or asked or invented, God commands Moses to teach the people of Israel to give from a long list of materials and silver and gold and cloths, and every type of material and precious stones that were in the hands of the people of Israel.

One more verse from this Torah portion has brought me to a super-spiritual excitement, because in Netivyah in our congregation of Ro’eh Israel we saw and experienced the same phenomenon of women selling their jewelry go give it to the Lord for the purchase of our building on Narkis Street in downtown Jerusalem.

Here is for me one of the most amazing texts in the Torah:

“They came, both men and women, as many as had a willing heart, and brought earrings and nose rings, rings and necklaces, all jewelry of gold, that is, every man who made an offering of gold to the Lord.” – Exodus 35:22 [NKJV]

I have seen great generosity by so many brothers and sisters from around the world for the purchase of the building on Narkis Street and more recently for the remodeling and rebuilding of the building that remind me of this text in the Torah. I have seen women sell their gold jewelry and give the money for the purchase of the building.

I have seen an old family from Vaasa, Finland, sell one of their homes and give all the money for us in Jerusalem to have our own building. This, my dear brothers, is the real true and faithful giving and contributing to the Lord and His Kingdom, give from your heart, with humility and without seeking rewards or recognition or extra honor or notoriety for their “generosity”.

Yeshua condemns the Pharisees who give with fanfare and trumpets, that announce that they gave and how much they gave and even get a plaque to hang on their wall that they gave and how much they gave and in who’s honor they gave… People that give in this negative way will get their reward in this life and their debts will be charged with full latitude on the day of judgment.

What an important text this is that tells us that the men and the women, especially the women, took their earrings, and nose rings, and rings, and necklaces, and gold jewelry, and just plain gold bullion and gave it for the building of the house of the Lord!

I feel privileged to read this in the Torah, and even more privileged to have seen this personally in Jerusalem, and Finland, Japan, China, Brazil, Bulgaria, and the United States. Having read the Torah and seen the very practice and the motivation of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of men and women to take the earrings from their ears and put them in the basket for the Lord’s word and kingdom!

I hope you have the privilege to give sacrificially and sincerely, and to see others put to practice such a true willingness of their hearts and making that willingness of the heart a tangible contribution to the Lord and His kingdom. I will conclude this teaching from the Torah with the following statement, “giving is more blessed than receiving” and may the Lord bless me and give me the ability to give and be blessed by God. Pray that the Lord will bless you so that you can give back to the Lord with joy and with pleasure in the Spirit of humility and simplicity.

The last thing that I want to say on this topic is that same phenomenon like the poor widow who gave the two pennies and the rich Pharisee who gave 1000 dinars, and the Lord asked “who gave more?” The answer was and still is that the widow who gave from her poverty the two pennies, gave more, because she gave all that she could give. I have seen in our own congregation both of these phenomena, but the sad thing is that some of the rich gave little and they gave it in public and they wanted the honor and recognition in public.

So sad that some people never learn because they don’t take the Lord’s teaching seriously. They believe in Yeshua, but they don’t frankly believe Yeshua, or take His commands seriously. I am sad and sorry that there are some who could but didn’t and happy and full of joy for those who couldn’t but did!!

1. Please keep doing intercessory prayer for the whole world, concentrate on your country, but do not forget Israel.

2. There is a blessing from God to those who pray for other brothers and sisters and intercede through the Holy Spirit for the body of the Messiah.

3. It might seem like a small thing for us to pray a few minutes for brothers and sisters around the world, but in the kingdom and in the Heavens, attention is paid by the authorities of goodness to the caring and sincere intercessory prayer that conforms and confirms that the body of the Messiah Yeshua is truly one body.

4. Pray for those who have prayed so faithfully for the salvation of Israel and the peace in Israel. If you are not praying for the salvation of Israel, please start now. This prayer is sure to be answered by the Lord because He promised that, “all of Israel shall be saved!”

Please keep praying for Marcia my wife and for me. We are both going through some medical tests to find out what is wrong with our health. We need God’s grace and strength and healing every day anew!

Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro, Belo-Horizonte, Vitoria, Curitiba, and all around Brazil. Brazil is one of the countries that has a very high rate of coronavirus sick and dead. We have brothers and sisters and sister congregations all through this great country of Brazil. The list of the sick is too long to include by individual names. Just pray for all of them and for Brazil itself. The Lord knows His children by name.

The situation of our older sisters who are true heroes in the service of the Lord – Leah, Ahuva, and Ilana need our prayers. I am asking you join us all in praying for our older sisters. They are true heroes of faith, and their love for the Lord, and for His people, is without limit.

There is a clear command in the word of God to take care of the widows and orphans. This command appears in the Torah, the prophets, the writings, and in the New Testament - even several times.

Anyone who is getting old or has older family members must know that the fellowship of the saints and of our spiritual family can be trusted to keep this commandment and to take care of our older generation of people who have given their all during their younger years, and it is the responsibility of the saints to take care of their elderly.

Zacharias Waldner from Canada who is paraplegic has a problem with sores and is asking for our prayers. Please add Zacharias to your prayer list.

I also received a request to pray for a young brother, Raymond Jimenez, who has the Coronavirus and needs God’s blessing for recovering and returning back to his normal life.

We received a prayer request from a dear sister, Livia Schnell Nothen, who has been with us in Portugal and has stood with our brothers in Brazil and with us on the issue of the Anussim.

Please keep brother Philip Marc in your prayers. Philip is a young man with very serious cancer. He is a truth seeker and a faithful disciple of Yeshua who loves God and who is a lover of Israel. Philip lives far from Israel in a country that we can’t travel to, but Philip's heart is with us, and with God’s people.

Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.

The situation in Israel is not getting better yet! Israel is still under closure with limited mobility and most of the economy and businesses are closed, at least for now. The economy is devastated.

It is a good work to pray for people whom you don’t know personally and to pray for the world to recover and bring an end to this horrible pandemic called the coronavirus. Corona is a crown, and I am not sure on the head of which king this virus is a crown.

Please pray for Gary, our daughter-in-law Beth Shulam’s father. Pray for Danah our daughter, she needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time.

I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew, and Pastor Isaac from the city of Chennai.

Please do not forget to lift up in prayer the young man Paulo and the Amaral family, in Brazil.

Please keep in your prayers our dear brother Pastor TJ in Taiwan. TJ’s mother has some very serious problems and TJ is now in California for his mother and father.

Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City. Ruby went through a new set of tests for her cancer and the tests returned with not such a good news. Ruby is in need of our prayers. Pray for God to heal Ruby from her cancer that after two years of treatments not much improvement. Ruby needs a miracle and strength and courage to deal with this challenge in the best way that will give her a better quality of life than chemotherapy, for divine intervention, a miracle of healing.

Lift up in prayer the following brothers and sisters:

Please keep praying for Samuel Lopes, a 17-year-old boy who is going through an extremely hard time.

Please pray for the family of brother Joseph Kelber and especially for his son.

Pleae lift these brothers and sisters in your prayers: Angela Isby, Aries Franklin Mayers Sr., and Tony Black. Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee, Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H, Ilana Abramov, David Stern and his family, Anne West who is now 100 years old.

Remember the following brothers and sisters from the Roeh Israel Congregation in Jerusalem; Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Zvi D. and Bathsheba, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their baby, and pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan. Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli. Our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Evelina, and Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.

Around the whole world, we pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, and Yumi.

Please keep praying for Guilherme Antonio Nathan Becker and his wife Artuza de Oliviera, also add Rachael and Daniel Webster and Lizette Nancy, and Jose Carlos from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.

You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do.

Please keep in your prayers a dear sister who attends our congregation in Jerusalem. Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery.

We are praying for Tali and asking you all to pray for Tali. We need to ask God to heal and bless this dear sister that is suffering both physically and materially. Tali has three teenage daughters with health problems and Tali herself has some serious health problems.

Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:

1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.

2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.

3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.

4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.

I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children.

Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
